Hi ,
I've got two quick things to let you know about.
First of all, I've got dates set for my upcoming presentation and classes at JAX Outdoor in Fort Collins, Colorado.
I'll be doing a Friday evening presentation on October 12, called The Adventure of Photography: Shooting Outdoor, Action and Travel with the Fujifilm X Series.
Then, on Saturday, October 13, I'll be hanging out at the store all day and teaching two classes: Getting to Know Your
Fujifilm Camera, and Advanced Techniques with the X Series.
As you may know, I was based in Fort Collins for many years, and that's where I lived when I first turned pro. I've also bought a lot of stuff at JAX- it's an awesome store. So, this will be a special homecoming for me, and I plan to put some pictures in my presentation from the old days, back
when I was a budding pro adventure photographer shooting Velvia film.
The address for JAX is 122 North College Ave, Fort Collins, Colorado. If you live in the area or will be traveling to that region, then I hope to see you at the store! The events are not up on their website yet, but check back for more info and exact times.
I'm intrigued by the new ETERNA film simulation. It's designed primarily as a motion
picture color profile, but it can be used for stills too. It has very low tonality and saturation, kind of like the opposite of Velvia. However, it activates the imagination in a different way and plays right into the notion that photography is about representation, not reproduction.
If you're a video shooter, you'll be glad to hear that the X-T3 has some highly advanced video features, including time code, zebra highlights, separate video/still image quality and AF settings and a variety of output options.
The X-T3 does excel in some areas, like autofocus, but as I pointed out in my recent AF tips post, being really good at autofocus takes skill and practice. If you can't nail it with the 2,
you probably won't be able to nail it with the 3, either. It's not magic.
However, if you have the skills and experience, then you will indeed notice a difference and you'll be able to take advantage of the new technology. If you don't really depend on fast AF or video, then it's a matter of things like slightly better low light performance, image quality and the new creative
settings.
If you do have X-T3 questions, feel free to ask. And if you think you want an X-T3, it's shipping now, you can grab one here, or at your local dealer. Also, you'll be happy to hear that I'm working on the next update for X SERIES UNLIMITED, which will include the X-T3 and all the recent firmware updates. It will be out
soon.
That's all for now. Have a great week and happy fall.

Sincerely,
Dan Bailey
