Hi ,
On the APS-C sensor Fuji cameras, the 35mm is considered a "normal" lens, because it has a similar angle of view and visual perspective to that of the human eye. In other words, it sees like we see.
Although this view is sometimes not as dramatic as a wide angle or a telephoto, you can do a lot with normal lenses. They're quite versatile and offer a wide range of creativity, but you have to know how to use them properly in order to get the most impact.
Normal lens are great when shooting up close and at moderate distances. They're not always very effective once you get past about 20-30 feet, but there are a couple of compositional techniques the can help this.
Even if you don't have this specific lens, these ideas apply to any similar focal length, or any of the Fuji zooms that have this range, like the XF18-55mm.
On my blog this week, I wrote a post that highlights some of my favorite shots made with the XF35mm f/2 and explain how you can take advantage of its unique visual characteristics in order to add power and visual impact to your photographs.
