If you've followed my recent videos and blog posts, then then you've seen how much fun I've been having shooting closeups of flowers in my garden with Fujifilm's new XF70-300mm lens.

 

Well, last week, I added a new component to the mix: Flash.

 

 

Using just a single off-camera flash allowed me to create even more dramatic closeup images that have increased depth and boldness. For my shots, I've been using Fuji's new EF-60 flash and EF-W1 Wireless Commander, which allows you to control a single light, or any number of lights with ease. 

 

Both of these items use the Nissin Air System, which is a powerful radio remote solution for doing off-camera lighting. Nissin even has an affordable intro kit that gives you a flash and wireless remote for a very reasonable price. It's enough to get you started, and it will allow you to get looks like these photos below.
