In case you missed this the other day...
With the new 5th gen X Series camears, Fujifilm has introduced a brand new film simulation called NOSTALGIC Neg. Designed to recreate the look of images in old photo albums, this new film sim produces a relatively soft
tonalty throughout the midtones and highlights, but with a richer, slighly warmer color palette in the shadows.
It's a great compliment to CLASSIC Neg., which is also a lower saturation film sim, but one that has offers a bit more high contrast and tonal gradation in the highlights and shadows.
(If you're using an older X Series model, then you can find a great NOSTALGIC Neg. style recipe over at Ritchie Roesch's great site, FUJIXWEEKLY.)
With a much low saturation level than films like Velvia, PROVIA or even ASTIA, NOSTALGIC Neg. dramatically reduces the strong blue cast and contrast that often appears in the shade with some of the others sims, while still offering warm, rich colors and increased reds that have more richness than CLASSIC CHROME.
I love using the film simulations, because they allow me to get a variety of really captivating looks right out of the camera that match the variety of moods and creative ideas I may have when I'm trying to capture a particular scene.
Here are a few of my recent images that I've shot with the new NOSTAGLIC Neg. film sim, and a couple of comparisons with Velvia.
If you have of the new 5th gen Fujis, then I encourage you to explore NOSTAGLIC Neg., and see how it renders the types of subjects you like to shoot.
