That doesn't mean that I don't go into the new year with some specific goals that I want to meet during the next twelve months. They're usually pretty broad, like "write more songs this year," "do a 100-mile
mountain bike race" or "travel to a specific place I've never visited." As it stands, I've already signed up for two out-of-state mountain bike races this winter and spring, and a trail half marathon for the fall.
Having goals is a good thing, especially when it comes to goals that surround our creativity. I've long talked about how our capacity to be creative with the abstract complexity we're capable of, is one of the very
things that makes us human.
Plus, being creative has the power to take us to that special place, where stresses, troubles, life problems and other negative elements fade into the
background. Even if we don't walk away from our creative time with an excellent finished product or jaw-dropping photo, the time spent was still valuable to our mental health, i.e., we had fun and/or introspective time, and chances are, we probably learned something in the process.
After not shooting very many photos during the fall months of 2022, I've been using the camera much more often lately. In addition to taking walks around my
neighborhood and going for snow bike rides, I'll even bring it in the car while I run errands. This has resulted in some great photos that were shot in parking lots around Anchorage during the past month.
Here are some of my new favorite images shot during the first few days of 2023, all made with the X-T5 and XF70-300mm lens. I hope that you've been getting out with the camera as well lately, are looking forward to a great
