Hi ,

Yesterday, I spent most of the day yesterday watching the inauguration ceremonies, and took a long walk outside in the sunshine during the middle of the day. I've made a point to watch most of the inaugurations in my adult life, and nearly all of them have left me feeling inspired, not just by what was said, but by the sheer fact that a regular "reset" is good for us as a whole. It's good for society, and it's good for us as creatives and regular people. Whether it's the top leadership of the world, or our own daily life rituals and circumstances, starting fresh with new ideas is one of the most effective ways to break out of the inevitable ruts that we all experience in our lives.

With this in mind, I enacted some sweeping changes by giving my blog a complete facelift. By converting it to a brand new theme and refining the overall look, my entire site is now more up-to-date with the current technology. In addition, this process has allowed me to optimize things underneath the hood. Much like clearing out the old boxes that have been left from previous administrations, this change allowed me to get rid of old plugins and other back end components that were only adding to the clutter.

I'm really excited about the new look and improved functionally, and I think you'll find that it's much more visually appearing and easer to navigate. In addition, I added pages that allow you to find all of the podcasts, interviews and webinars that I've done during the past few years, and my web store has been totally revamped with a much cleaner look.

New Music Page and Blog!

If you've been following me for awhile, then you know that I've been a musician for longer than I've been a photographer. I also have a degree in music production from Berklee College of Music. In the past few years, I've been incorporating more of my music into my photography, mostly by adding original music to some of my YouTube videos. This past year, I shot my very first music videos for two new songs that I wrote in 2020. However, during most of the previous few years, I've found myself procrastinating with my music to extents that finely reached unacceptable levels with me.

So, with the brand new year and the harsh reality of COVID, I have decided that my life is too short to not make and share as much music as I can. Earlier this month, I created a brand new Music Page on my website, and also started a music blog, where you can listen to my music and read my own geeky thoughts and insight about music and guitar. My first post is all about my own history with music, my experiences with making music and even the close relationship it has with my photography.

And, with the launch of my music page, I have also released, what is essentially my debut album. It's a collection of newly remastered rock guitar instrumentals I wrote and recorded during the early 2000's. Even though these songs are all pretty old, this is the first time that most of then have seen the light of day. After all these years, I'm very proud of how they sound.

I plan to record and release even more music as we go forward, so if you're interested in hearing more of what I write, you can follow me on the indie music site Bandcamp. If you'd like to share in some of my geeky music posts, then be sure to check out my music blog from time to time. And feel free to leave me a comment, especially if you're a fellow musician.

Either way, don't worry. I have no plans to abandon my photography career to become a rock star. That ship sailed a long time ago. I'll still devote most of my time to photography, but since music is that important to me, I'll just be devoting more time to it in the future. Also, I'm just so intrigued by the technology that allows people to share their creativity in a multitude of ways. This is good for all of us.

Maybe this will even inspire you to start thinking about what else you have to share with the world, or at the very least, expand your own creative outlets. It's never too late... for anything.

Creative Tip - Shooting Monochrome in Color

Back in 2019, I made a video called Creating Monochromatic Images in Color. In this YouTube Lesson, I explore the concept of using dominant color palettes in your photography. This is where a single color or color scheme becomes the most prominent color in your photo. In some cases, it can end up being the ONLY color in your photo.

It's similar to shooting in black and white, except you're actually shooting in color. By using this technique you can come up with some really cool and unique looks in your photos, and expand your image making options in new ways. Check out this blog post and watch the video and see if it inspires some new ideas in your own creative head.

Save 50% on My Photography On The Brain 20-Lesson Bundle

Last week, I ran a 60% off sale for my Photography On The Brain video lesson bundle. It was just a one time deal, but I don't want to leave you totally out in the cold if you missed it.

So, I'm running a one-week-only special at 50% off. It's not as good and 60%, but it's still $100 off of the regular price for all 20 lessons.

If you've watched my YouTube video lessons, then you already know my teaching style. Photography On The Brain features the same kind of down-to-earth instruction, but the content goes much deeper. In the "Brain" lessons, I expand into much more conceptual ideas that will help you develop your own creativity, your own style, and even your own approach to shooting photos.

I know I can make a difference in your photography this year, so please consider taking advantage of my knowledge and experience and expand your own photography brain. And as with any of my ebooks and courses, it's 100% guaranteed. If you buy the 20-lesson bundle and decide after watching a few of them that this course just isn't for you, I'll refund your money. Simple as that.

Looking Ahead

I'm excited about the new year and what 2021 will bring, even if we're still facing a few more months of lockdowns and a long wait before most of us get vaccinated. It's still going to be awhile before I'm able to do workshops and events again.

However, that shouldn't deter your creativity. There are so many ways to remain creative and engaged with the things you love to do, it. just takes a little adaptation, but that's what we humans do best. That's where we excel in life. That's what makes us able to do just about anything want, as long as we apply ourselves and learn to overcome the challenges we face.

So, even though 2021 still looks a little bleak, there are indeed reasons to stay motivated and excited about the possibilities that lie right in front of you, whether it's being creative with the camera, or doing something completely different.

That's all for now. Thanks so much for reading, . It's through the continued support that I've been able to keep the wheels moving, despite the difficulties we've all faced.

So, enjoy my recent posts, take care and have fun with your creativity this month.

Best,
Dan
