Happy Fall to all of you Northern Hemisphere people! And of course, happy Spring, if you live below the Equator. Either way, this time of year is largely about change: The change in sunlight, sun angle and day length, the colors you see outside, and of course, the way we approach our activities and adventures when we head outside to play and shoot photos.
There's a cynical component to the change of seasons, and so it's always a good time for reflection and thinking about what we've done during previous cycles, the kinds of images we've shot in the past, and what we hope to do and photograph this during our present cycle and season.
We're transitioning into colder temperatures here in Alaska, and with the change of seasons, I'm experiencing my own transitions as well. Earlier this summer, I injured my shoulder, and so after two months of hoping that it would get better, I started physical therapy to help speed up the healing and get me back to full mobility. I'm actually excited about the process of taking an active role in my recover, and I look forward to seeing improvement. And I'm hopeful, not least
of all, because my doctor has treated gold medal Olympians.
I'm also seeing a cyclical transition in my creativity as well. As I showed you with last week's blog post, I've started bringing flash back into my photography and remembering how much even a simple setup can add to the workflow. In that way, I feel like I've come full circle, but with some big new leaps.
It's a pretty exciting time, because the technology has improved dramatically in the past 10 years, and we now have powerful and affordable radio triggering that we could only dream about back then.
Newly Updated eBook Coming!
So, with this in mind, I've been re-working and editing my eBook, Going Fast With Light, to include near new techniques and new photos. The gear chapter has been totally rewritten to list the incredible new selection of affordable flash gear that's available today, and the rest of the book has updated text and lots of image examples that will help de-mystify flash and show how you can use very
simple setups to make a HUGE difference in the quality of your imagery.
I wrote GFWL ten years ago, and so I'm excited to be releasing this 2nd Edition very soon. It was a popular book when I released it back in 2011, and the new version is even better! If you purchased the ebook recently, you'll definitely get the updated edition for free. Either way, stay tuned!!
In the meantime, enjoy this video lesson on using color in your photography, keep in touch , and have a great fall. And I promise, I'll get back to doing more YouTube lessons soon.
