Hi ,
I've been a little behind on my email newsletters lately, mostly because this whole COVID thing has thrown everything off, so this will be a relatively short message. Between you and me, I'm not a fan of pandemics. This is my first one, but from what I've seen so far, they just don't seem like good things for humanity.
All kidding aside, because we need a little kidding in our lives to break the tension, the Coronavirus has obviously caused major disruptions in all of our lives, no matter where you live on the globe. My heart goes out to everyone who has lost their jobs, lost friends or family members to the disease, or has lost income and valuable opportunities in life right now. This is such a stressful and difficult time for all of us, and it's requiring us to rethink, retool and reevaluate how we do
just about everything in our daily lives. It saddens me to see so many business and entrepreneurs struggle right now, and so I'm trying to support as many small businesses as I can.
Throughout all of this, I've been hanging out at home in Alaska and trying to be safe. Fortunately, we don't have very many cases here, and because we're so isolated, we probably won't have very many, but we have seen our case count start to climb in the past couple weeks. That's an indication that we need to keep taking responsible measures as we head into summer.
On a professional level, I continue to plug away, shooting photos, riding my mountain bike, flying the little Cessna and filming more YouTube Videos for my channel. Many of my videos are Fuji specific, but I do have a number of tutorials and video lessons that are geared towards general photography tips and ideas.
I'm trying to make it so there's something for everyone up there, and as you might have seen earlier this spring, I even shot and produced my very first music video. I actually had a lot of fun making this, and I hope to create some more music videos in the future, if for nothing else, to exercise my own creativity with music, especially since I have a degree in music production.
In one of my recent videos, I take you along with me to Colony Glacier for a Mini Alaska Virtual Photo Workshop. The result is a bite-sized 15-minute video lesson where I walk you through the process of creating a few images right there on location. This was really fun to put together, so I hope you enjoy it.
Of course, all of my assignments and classes, and any other events and presentations that I might have had this year have been cancelled. Like many people, I've had to focus my energies towards my online content in order to generate income. Fortunately, I've had relatively strong support from my readers and followers who continue to purchase my eBooks, sign up for my online lesson series and support me on Patreon. If you're one of those people who have helped me out in any way this year, or even in past years, then I want to thank you very much for your support. If you'd like to throw some additional help my way, you can use
this donation link or become one of my Patreon members.
I hope that you've been managing to stay creative during this scary and uncertain time. I feel that it's vitally important that we all try to keep exercising our creative minds and delve into whatever creative process inspires us right now. And even if we can't go on trips or explore the places we might want to visit, there are plenty of photography opportunities close to home.
In fact, I think taking the time to explore the areas near where you live, even if they're right in your own backyard, can inspire you to see and be creative in ways that you might not have explored before. This is the time to try different technique and apply new approaches to your photography and image making. This is the time to photograph things in the garden and practice things like focus stacking, or macro, or shoot things like water drops on the leaves. Or photograph portraits of the people in your bubble, or capture compelling images of your pets. Or train your lens on the bird feeder.
So I hope that you're finding time to get outdoors with the camera, and maybe even do some hikes or bike rides near where you live. Even if you're just making short excursions. And I hope that you're staying sane and keeping safe right now. Please be well, , stay motivated, try to find the fun where you can and keep in touch.
Very best regards,
Dan
