Join Me for A Special "Co-Led" Denali Photo Workshop with Jeff Schultz!

Published: Wed, 05/20/15

Hi ,

I would like to invite you on a very special Alaska Photo Treks photography workshop opportunity this summer. In August, I’ll be co-leading a 7 day/8 night adventure landscape workshop with renowned Alaska outdoor photographer Jeff Schultz, who has been the official Iditarod photographer for over 35 years and a longstanding icon in the world of Alaska imagery. Together, we’ll take you deep into one of Alaska's greatest wilderness areas, Denali National Park, with access to areas that few ever see.

Timed for the Denali tundra being fully alive with late summer color, this is not just a “tour” but a true photo workshop. This trip is planned specifically for photographers, by Jeff, who knows the areas extremely well. Jeff and I will teach you methods we’ve learned in our combined 50+ years as a professional photographers to help you take your landscape and wildlife photography to the next level.

On the way to and from Denali, you’ll experience and photograph several other unique areas Jeff has found over his 35 years living in Alaska, and once in The Park, our 4 nights of accommodations at Camp Denali offer THE very best location for seeing Mt. McKinley within the park. In addition, the areas we visit, the activities available and the type of accommodations make this a perfect trip to bring your non-workshop participating spouse.

During each of the workshop classroom sessions, you’ll learn methods for shooting stellar landscape and wildlife images. In the field, Jeff and I will both will guide you through methods for making the best image at the current location with the subject at hand. Our focus is entirely on your image-making, not our own, and both Jeff and I are there to help YOU take your photography to the next level.

Some of the topics included in work-sessions include:

    •    10 Tips to making better images no matter where you are
    •    Composition: Do’s, Don’ts, and New Ideas
    •    What makes a compelling image
    •    Using various types of filters
    •    Combining shutter speeds and f-stops… and the effects of each
    •    Equipment: What You Really Need, Would Like, & Don’t Need at All

Please note, this is a small group workshop with a max of 9 people, plus Jeff and myself. As of right now, there are only 3 spots left. The trip filled up last year, so if you’d like to join is on this special photo experience, click here to reserve your spot.

About Camp Denali
Located 89 miles from the crowded park entrance and with spectacular views of Mt. McKinley, Camp Denali is a unique wilderness retreat for those seeking an in-depth experience in Denali National Park. Founded in 1951, Camp Denali is Alaskaʼs original wilderness vacation lodge and nature center.

Accommodations are eighteen individual cabins, situated along a ridge with commanding views of Mt. McKinley and the Alaska Range. Cabins are furnished with a wood stove, propane lights and hotplate, hand-crafted quilts and Alaskan artwork.

Each cabin is located within a three to seven minute walk from the main log lodge, dining room, and shower facility. Drinking water comes from a spigot by your door, and may be heated in your cabin for a quiet cup of coffee, tea or for washing up.

Camp Denali's meticulously maintained outhouses offer private, convenient facilities, and each guest cabin enjoys clear views of Denali when it's out. A natural history resource room, complete with binocular microscope, herbarium, animal specimens and scientific library is always open for guest use. Camp Denali is not for everyone.

Note that this is not a luxurious resort. It does not have internet connection, cell service, T.V. (no other Denali lodges do either) or even unlimited electricity. Instead, creative handwork, attention to detail, and careful stewardship of the land create a simple elegance that does not detract from the wildlands you come to explore. Long-standing family ownership is committed to preserving and refining these fundamental elements.

The experience of staying at Camp Denali is a unique blend of camaraderie among fellow adventurers and staff in a wilderness setting without parallel. Read more and see reviews from Trip Advisor at Camp Denali Lodge. Camp Denali is an authorized concessioner of the National Park Service and its sole historic operator.
