After much anticipation, Fujifilm has just announced the brand new X-T3 camera. The good news is that if you love the X-T2, you’re going to love the X-T3, because the form factor has hardly changed. In just about every way, it looks, feels and operates just like the 2. The even better news is that the X-T3 takes everything that’s great about the X-T2 and tweaks it for maximum performance. I got to test the X-T3 for a couple weeks last month, and I can report that it’s an amazing upgrade; it’s essentially a hot rodded T2. I’ve already written my full review and thoughts about the X-T3, which you can read here on my blog. Labeled as the Fourth Generation X Series, the X-T3 has a brand new 26.1 MP BSI (Back Side Illuminated) sensor with 100% Phase Detection Pixel coverage and a brand new Quad Core image processor. The combination of these two hardware upgrades give the X-T3 unprecedented power and performance, as well as improved color clarity and some cool new creative features. My favorite is the new BW ADJ Setting, which allows you to add a warm or cool tint to your monochrome images, right inside the camera.
Autofocus and action shooting capabilities are even faster. The X-T3 has 4X as many Phase Detect pixels as the X-T2, and it can focus in much lower light levels. In addition to the increased AF speed, the BSI sensor also has for faster read rates. Continuous shooting now allows for image capture at up to 20 fps at full res and 30 fps at the new 1.25X crop SPORTS FINDER MODE. Video specs have been dramatically upgraded as well. In fact, the X-T3 is the first mirrorless APS-C camera to shoot 4:2:2 10-bit 4K/60p video with full HDMI output. It’s even higher performance than the X-H1, and like the X-H1, it has been given Fujifilm’s cinematic ETERNA film simulation. There are a lot of notable feature upgrades inside the X-T3, so be sure and check out my review to see what’s new and whether the T3 is the right camera for you. The X-T3 is slated to ship on September 20. You can preorder one here.
